A disciple of Nadanamani Guru K Manoju Kumar, SMT. Dhanalakshmi excelled in the Tanjore style of Bharatanatyam and within 6 years performed her Arangetram. All through her school and undergrad days she has performed and achieved many accolades. She has been among the creme-de-la-creme in academics too, grabbing a gold medal in BE and later pursuing an MBA in HR.
After completing her undergrad, Dhanalakshmi decided to pursue her passion professionally. She successfully completed a diploma and later masters in Bharatanatyam under the able guidance of Dr. Himaja Athulkumar where she was introduced to the Dhandayudhapani Pillai style of Bharatanatyam and the basics of nattuvangam. Nattuvangam being an integral part of Bharatanatyam, she further expanded her knowledge under Dr. Guru Bharadwaj.
Considering that Bharatanatyam is a vast ocean with an amalgamation of practical and theoretical knowledge, she made it her mission to research and learn well the nuances of the art form by attending various workshops and certificate courses. SMT. Dhanalakshmi has successfully trained students for Bharatanatyam grade level exams, Diploma and Masters in Bharatanatyam. With her strong understanding of Margam, she has guided a dozen students for their Salangai Poojai and Arangetram. Today, with her maiden initiative, Shivalayam Academy of Fine Arts, she aims to provide a platform for students to learn and excel in the art with a 360° approach.
In the future, she wishes to guide as many aspirants as possible and help them achieve their goals in life.
